Keeping your yoga mat clean and fresh will not only make your practice more pleasant but it will also prolong the life of your mat.
There are many pre-made products on the market, but I think where we can, it’s always a good idea to make our own. This way you save money. help the environment and get to choose the scents you like.
Here is what you need for a simple spray that is easy to make:
- Small spray bottle
- Water (fill 3/4 of the bottle)
- 2 drops of tea tree oil
- 1 drop of lavender oil
- Witch hazel or white vinegar (1/4 of the bottle)
Mix everthing together in the bottle and use with a soft cloth or sponge on both sides of your mat after practice. Allow to air dry before rolling your mat up ready for your next use.
Tea tree and lavender are great oils to use for this as they provide antibacterial properties along with smelling good but if you prefer other scents peppermint, lemongrass or eucalyptus have similar properties to tea tree. You can also add more lavender or some mix other oils that you like – don’t be afraid to try different combos to suit your mood.
Get creative!
